1^st time Midwest entrepreneur wins heralded national award

Detroit—MMBDC's David H. Segura the CEO of VisionIT, was named as Hispanic Business magazine’s 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year (HB EOY), an award that caps a remarkable year of recognition and many accolades for VisionIT’s tremendous growth and expansion.

This is the 18th year for this award which honors the nation’s most accomplished Hispanic entrepreneur for that year. Segura took home honors in the HB EOY Info Business Category as well as the overall award which will garner him a cover story in next month’s issue of Hispanic Business magazine. Segura is the first entrepreneur from the Midwest to win the HB EOY and only the second information technology entrepreneur to do so. The HB EOY was selected based on criteria including company strategy, financial growth, profitability, community activity, and support of other Hispanic-owned businesses.

“This award marks a milestone in the history of our company,” said Segura. “To be acknowledged in such a grand way on a national stage is truly a humbling experience. I am most thankful to our dynamic team whose shared vision and commitment has made this day possible.

Segura also acknowledged VisionIT president, Christine Rice for her role in the company’s success. “I want to especially highlight Christine who is one of the most dynamic Latina entrepreneurs for helping build the company with her passion and energy to be the best in our industry,” said Segura.

About 900 of the nation’s top executives, politicos, government leaders and Hispanic professionals attended the gala event held last Thursday evening at the beautiful Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles.

This is the second time in the company’s 11-year history that Segura has been recognized as part of HB’s EOY competition. Back in 2006 Segura was up for HB’s Emerging EOY. This past June, Segura was a recipient of the Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) award for its Central Great Lakes Region and will be up for their national EOY award later this year.
